Blizzard Entertainment Data Center

Location: Irvine, CA
General Contractor: Snyder Langston
Electrical Value: $2 Million

Summary: Pehnomenal growth spurred Blizzard Entertainment to seek new headquarters with added space for designers and an expanded data center to handle the enormous amount of internet traffic generated by Battle.net users.

Blizzard contracted with The Irvine Company to lease three buildings. General contractor Turelk brought in its veteran team—fresh from a similar project for engineering-giant Fluor Corporation—to handle the makeover. LPA Architects, electrical engineer Konsortum 1 and Bergelectric have turned the 171,000-sf campus into the ideal corporate headquarters for the gaming powerhouse.

As one of the world’s best, Blizzard Entertainment had specific requirements for staying at the top of its game. Berg collaborated with a lighting consultant to fine-tune the subdued and inderect lighting that would be best suited for video monitors used by the designers and installed the audio/visual-system backbone for soundproof rooms used in audio production of the games.

Considering the compressed schedule, Bergelectric employed expert strategy to beat the clock. While always in close communications, Berg Project Manager David Extale and Craig Gabel were each assigned responsibility for separate sections of the corporate headquarters. General Foreman Rodney Poole and Superintendent Robert Van Son were overseeing a team of 60 electricians on this rapid-fire project, adhering to critical-path tracking that ensured that long-lead materials arrived when needed and crews stayed organized and productive to meet the deadline.
