Summary: Designed by BAR Architects as a courtyard building, the new 5-story Student Services Center brings 26 disparate departments together into one building. By preserving a number of large trees in the courtyard, the building draws the arboretum setting of the campus into the center of the building. High-performance windows, extensive sun shading and access to views for all who work there enhance both the energy efficiency of the building and the comfort of its occupants.

Up-to-the-minute communications and life-safety systems were integral to the Chico project. Bergelectric installed fiber-optic cabling for the latest in high-seed internet access, along with the most advanced fire-alarm system available. Berg also installed architectural lighting, controlled access, signal and power systems designed by Flack & Kurtz Electrical Engineers, a San Francisco-based firm.
