Summary: The Cosmopolitan project, which is located near a busy light-rail station, was nearly derailed when the Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD) requested a new primary feed be installed due to the age of the structure, which would require underground vaults and add over a million dollars to the construction cost. “Our in-house design team worked closely with the electrical engineer—Exponent Engineering—to present an acceptable option. By keeping the existing service enclosure and switch, Berg was able to demonstrate that the recommended service alternative would handle the load of potential tenants.
In addition to the $8.7 million core and shell renovation of the existing structure, the base electrical systems of The Cosmopolitan needed to be brought up to code. The Berg team furnished and installed all of the electrical rough-in for the threater’s A/V systems, installed all interior and exterior lighting, and had full responsibility for the critical fire alarm and phone raceways/back boxes. |
