Summary: Bergelectric joined Clark Construction on the $35.5-million Phase VI of the Falkenburg facility that added 290,000-s.f. on the 140-acre site. In spring of 2008, the six new buildings – designed by CRA Architecs – were completed and increased the institution’s capacity from 2,304 to over 4,000 inmates. The project also included renovations to the food-service areas of nearby Orient Road Jail.
Working in a correctional facility that remained operational presented the challenge of maintaining existing utilities and power security systems while tying in new service. Berg’s detailing department played a vital role in coordinating the extensive underground conduit system that connects new buildings to the systems already in place.
