Summary: The Federal Correctional Institution, McDowell project was faced with severe weather that resulted in challenging construction conditions and great distances from larger towns or cities that make timely material deliveries an exception rather than the rule. The remote location and small population became a challenge for the project as well. Bergelectric was able to step up to the plate, supplying quality electricians from around the country to complete the scope of work.
In addition to the installation of all electrical systems and conduit for Division 17-related work, the project will require approximately 15 miles of duct bank throughout the nearly two dozen buildings that are spread out over the 300-acre site. By late 2009 the Federal Bureau of Prisons will be able to house 1,250 inmates at the $226-million FCI McDowell facility, generate new jobs and begin contributing economically again to the community.
