Mixed-Use Campus Facility at San Diego State University
Bergelectric has recently worked in a design-build role with Sundt Construction and Michael Wall Engineering to provide San Diego State University a much needed student housing/retail upgrade to the southern part of their campus. The “South Campus Plaza” (previously called Plaza Linda Verde) is made up of two ground up, six-story student housing/retail facilities, totaling over 370,000-sf. The new facilities are located immediately south of the SDSU Transit Center, between Hardy Avenue and Montezuma Road, and provides a “dynamic gateway” to the university.
With the preconstruction phase awarded to Bergelectric in May of 2014, Bergelectric and Michael Wall Engineering had to work quickly to complete the electrical design before Berg’s field forces could began the installation in September. “Keeping SDSU’s desire for high-end amenities while making sure the cost was within their budget presented a challenge,” said Bergelectric’s Preconstruction Manager, Patrick Stahle. “We were able to provide them with many innovative value engineering ideas to make their vision come to fruition,” he added.
