Bergelectric teamed up with CBG Building Company for the redevelopment of UC Davis West Village—the largest student housing community in U.S. history. The housing complex now adds nearly 3,300 beds to the campus, across 1,257 units of apartment-style housing to graduate and transfer students of the University of California at Davis.
The project is comprised of nine four-story apartment buildings along with indoor and outdoor community spaces and recreational fields across 34 acres. A 10,000-s.f. community building now houses a fitness center, multipurpose room, and support services. With its expansive solar electric arrays, each building contributes to the overall neighborhood goal of zero net energy, which means the project is designed to generate as much energy as it uses within a year.
The largest Net-Zero community in North America, the project includes an exterior insulation and finish system for continuous insulation, TPO roofing, high-efficiency split-system HVAC, electric boilers, and net metering from solar panels over the carports.
UC Davis West Village was completed in the summer of 2021.
