Revitalizing Downtown Sacramento

Bergelectric has been working to alter Sacramento’s downtown skyline with the construction of the new Downtown Commons (aka “DoCo”). The 18-story (2 below ground) mixed-use building now sits adjacent to the Golden 1 Center, which the Sacramento Kings NBA organization calls home. The hotel and condominium tower rises high above the arena and will provide patrons with restaurants and shopping facilities to enhance the arena’s basketball and event experience.

The tower includes seven floors of hotel rooms, five floors of residential spaces, and an entire floor dedicated to the Sacramento Kings’ operations. The bottom three levels include mixed-use facilities consisting of restaurants and retail facilities.

The fast-track redevelopment project came with many challenges for Bergelectric, including minimal underground space due to a sub-level parking facility, an extensive single-line installation that required heavy coordination with the Sacramento Utilities District, and an expedited construction schedule.

The lack of space on site at the downtown location, however, was perhaps the biggest obstacle for Bergelectric’s crews to overcome. To save space, Bergelectric worked hand in hand with their vendors to coordinate “just-in-time” deliveries, ensuring electrical materials and assemblies were brought to the job site as they were ready to be installed. Bergelectric also took advantage of their NorCal regional office warehouse—located in Sacramento—to store materials before “just-in-time” delivery. The lack of space also impacted the electrical installation as crews had to feed bus duct to the hotel and rooftop levels in order to preserve space down below.

Despite the challenges, Bergelectric has been able to deliver on the city’s much-needed upgrade where “locals will hang and visitors from around the globe will experience Sacramento at its finest.”
